This offseason has been a typical one filled with over-priced free agents, over-hyped draft prospects and blow hard players demanding trades. Another typical happening is the media’s infatuation with all things involving ‘America’s Team,’ the Dallas Cowboys. The Cowboys have made more headlines than any other team this offseason despite their lack of actual football moves - besides the Zach Thomas signing. It seems almost every rumor about a big name player, Pac-Man Jones, Chad Johnson and Darren McFadden centers around Dallas. This is most likely because of the old ‘America’s Team’ stigma that surrounds them. I really don’t think of them as the most popular NFL team, I just think of them as the most popular team with the media. I also think it’s the media that really wants Dallas to add Pac-Man and Ocho Cinco to a roster that already includes the occasionally volatile Terrell Owens. Just think of the endless possibilities of having those three on the same squad. The media circus would easily top the overblown hype that surrounded New England last season. I would have to venture to guess that having those three on the same roster would have no logical conclusion other than a complete and utter implosion at the first sign of trouble (a losing streak). Imagine a game that Dallas lost in which T.O. had 15 passes thrown his way and Johnson was the target on only five. Tony Romo would likely have to wear sunglasses in the locker room to ward off the glare from Chad Johnson’s teeth as he flapped his gums. After the incessant tongue lashing Romo would seek out Pac-Man to blow off some steam at a local watering hole that may or may not include scantily clad members of the fairer sex.
All kidding aside Dallas needs to realize that they weren’t too far away from finding the right roster combination to get to, and possibly win, their first Super Bowl in a decade. Having too many big egos is not what they need, but with Jerry Jones involved big move and big egos are always welcome in big-D.
I personally hope that Dallas does make all these moves because I’m a member of the media and I believe it would make for high drama, comedy and the demise of the Cowboys ’08 season.
